We  just love @dreaming_in_daisies and we know you will too! We've asked her a bunch of questions and we think you'll enjoy getting to know more about her work, family and life!

Question: Tell us about yourself, where you live and your family?

Answer: I'm Melanie, and my Partner, Daisy’s Dad is Joe. Daisy is out only child and she’s nearly 4 (November) so work in both Health and Wine (haha nice combo) and Joe is in Law. We live in the north of Melbourne.

Question: Tell us about your Instagram @dreaming_in_daisies and how you are creating & designing the most wonderful, colourful and happy images of Daisy? What’s involved in being a Digital Creator these days

Answer: I kind of fell into it to be honest. At the start of lockdown (March 2021) I couldn’t work as my industry was shut down and I became a little isolated. I really connected with the other Mothers on the gram and forged beautiful friendships, many I have now met and are part of our lives. Originally I loved taking photos of Daisy in nature, over time it’s developed into more of a creative outlet for me. I still love to capture Daisy in the moment especially outdoors and playing… but I also love to get an idea in my head and run with it.

It’s harder work than it looks. I have to keep a schedule of what I have coming up and have a diary now. But I think really it takes a little creativity and making sure you develop a good and real following, one that is supportive and engaging, that’s what actually takes the most time.

For the toy photos, a good space with light is a must, and your child must also love the toys… a 3 year old won’t fake it.

Question: How do you balance your work, creativity and motherhood?

Answer:  Well at the moment I haven’t been working mostly for the last 20 months due to Covid, so this creative outlet had been my passion. We will have to see how we go being back at work… but I’m fairly organised and I really love being creative. So time will tell how we go.

Question: We love how you have so many interesting colourful outfits for Daisy! We are slightly jealous as we could never pull off her look. Even your back drops are colourful! Where do you find her outfits and how to put them it all together?

Answer: Small independent stores and individual fashion brands have always been my passion even before Daisy was born. I’ve always been into colour and creating a colourful and fun wardrobe for myself. I get a lot of inspiration from other accounts, I think we all do. I love handmade brands like Uddevallabarn and Holly Jackson Art. I also love stores such and Freddie and the Rat, Hey little and Popsee. I’m all for supporting small.

Question: Can you please give us some tips on how to set up some open play with Daisy and keeping her engaged?

Answer: Before any of it, we take the time to play just us… so she can really explore and become familiar with the toys… I always find spending time playing with her, then encourages her to go back and independently play in the future.

On the day I always set up beforehand. I also take a couple of photos prior to her coming in just to make sure the lighting works. I then ask her to show me how the toys work.. because she has played with them before, she’s quite engaged and happy to show me.

Often in my reels you can see her chatting, that’s her usually telling me what she’s doing. I set up my camera phone for the video on a stand and just let it film… I cut it up later. Then I quickly take snaps while she’s engaged. I do explain to her why I’m taking photos. I’ve tried to be really upfront with what we are doing and why, especially as she’s become older and I always ask her if I can.

Question: What is next for you?

Answer: I’ve never been one for knowing what’s ahead. I’m quite sporadic and live in the moment. I think there will be a little bit more of my face coming up, lots more colour and fun.
