Goodies You’ll Need
To create your very own burger flags and bring your play food to life, gather these simple materials before you begin. Everything is easy to find and perfect for a fun little crafting session with your kids.
- Make Me Iconic Burger Flag template (printed in colour on good quality paper for the best result)
- Scissors (for carefully cutting out each flag shape)
- Double-sided tape (to neatly secure your flags in place)
- 3mm diameter dowel, cut into 5cm lengths (approx. 9 pieces for multiple flags)
Using good-quality paper will make your flags sturdier and longer-lasting, especially for ongoing play. Once everything is cut and assembled, these little details add so much personality, turning your burger into a full café-style experience and making playtime even more fun and interactive!
Step-by-Step
1. Download our Make Me Iconic Burger Flag template and print it in colour on good-quality white paper. Using thicker paper will give your flags a sturdier finish, making them perfect for repeated play.
Take your time to ensure the print quality is nice and vibrant, this will make your burger flags really stand out and add that extra special touch to your play setup. Once printed, you’re ready to move on to cutting and assembling your flags!
2. Carefully cut out each flag, taking your time to follow the edges as neatly as possible. If you’re after a super clean and polished look, you can use a cutting knife and ruler for perfectly straight lines (adult help recommended).
Don’t worry if they’re not perfectly precise, kids will love being part of this step, and each flag will have its own unique charm. Once all your pieces are cut out, you’ll start to see your burger decorations come to life!
3. Fold each flag carefully in half, making sure the edges line up neatly. Press firmly along the fold to create a crisp crease, this will help the flag sit nicely once attached to the dowel.
Taking the time to get a good, clean fold will give your flags a more polished look and help them hold their shape during play. Now they’re really starting to come together!
4. Place a strip of double-sided tape along the inside back half of the flag, making sure it runs neatly along the edge where it will fold over. This will help secure the flag firmly around the dowel.
Take care to position the tape evenly so the flag sticks smoothly without wrinkles. Once applied, you’re ready to attach it and bring your little burger flags to life!
5. Place the dowel neatly along the inside fold of the flag, then press the two sides together firmly so the tape secures it in place. Gently smooth it down to make sure it sticks evenly and holds its shape.
Repeat this step for each flag, and watch as your collection of mini burger flags comes together, ready to pop into your play food and add that perfect finishing touch!
6. Presto! Your burger flags are ready, easy to make and even easier to add to your Aussie Burger. Simply pop them into your play food and watch how they instantly bring your setup to life.
These little finishing touches make a big difference, turning a simple burger into a full café-style experience. Kids will love the added detail, using their flags to “serve” meals, take orders, and create their own food stories.
Best of all, once you’ve made them, they can be used again and again—adding personality, creativity, and a sense of pride to every play session. It’s a small craft with a big impact, making playtime feel even more special and imaginative.
